Our pastor is Dr. Dick Sisk.  Dick was born on June 7, 1948 in Levelland, Texas.  He has been married to Barbara of Crockett, Texas since August 18, 1967.  They have four daughters and six grandchildren.  Dick is an alumni of  Jacksonville College in Jacksonville, Texas and Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.  He also has a Master’s in Biblical Studies from Criswell College in Dallas, Texas, a Master of Divinity degree as well as a Doctor of Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas.  He has pastored in Lubbock, in Rockwall/Heath, in Dallas, in Flat, Texas and in Memphis, Tennessee.  In addition, Dick has developed a men’s program and ministry for the Memphis Cancer Foundation and served as Vice-President/General Manager of Turpin Meadow Guest Ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  Dick became our pastor in May of 2008.

In past years Dick was very involved in Southern Baptist life, serving as a Trustee for the International Mission Board for eight years, president of both Shelby County (TN) Pastor’s conference and Dallas County (TX) Pastor’s conference, as well as involvement with the local associations where he has served.

Dick’s primary ministry gifts are in preaching, teaching, and leadership.  He has traveled and preached in over twenty countries.  He has also served a chaplain for football teams for nearly forty years including 12 years as chaplain of the University of Memphis football team.

When asked about his hobbies, Dick says, “My greatest love is spending time with my wife, children, and grandchildren when able. Outside the local church, my interests are primarily in the area of traveling to mission fields to interact with and encourage missionaries and their families as well as native pastors and their families. I am an avid outdoorsman.  I have a passion for big game hunting, fishing, and golf.  I have been a licensed big game outfitter for Wyoming. I also enjoy woodworking, music, and song writing.”

When asked about Tarpley Baptist Church, Dick responded, “I cannot think of a better place to spend the rest of my ministry than with this church and these people.  There is very little pretension here.  People here love the Lord and genuinely want to serve Him.  We are, without apology, a country church.  It’s the perfect place for imperfect people. Our services are very informal and people seem to  sense the warmth and love the moment they enter the building.”
